Digital Generation
In today's society, anyone who is not Amish is pretty much guaranteed to be a part of the digital generation in one way or another. The kids in the videos are far more advanced in their knowledge and ability to use technology than myself or many of my peers, but they grew up with a far more advanced world. Technology has its advantages and disadvantages. It can be the most amazing, life changing thing, or it can ruin you if put in the wrong hands. The kids in the videos are way more advanced than anyone that I know, or for that matter anyone that my high school and middle school aged sisters know. It may just be that the people we all associate with do not openly discuss things like what the kids in the videos are doing, but I honestly think its that I do not know anyone who is taking advantage of technology and its capabilities like the people in the video. I think that technology is something that, if you use it right, can be an incredible asset, and I have all intention of using it when I have my own classroom.

It is interesting that you say that if you are not Amish, you will be a part of the digital generation. I happen to live in a rural area where a lot of Amish live. I don't know any personally, but I interact with a lot of people on a daily basis who know several memebers of the Amish community pretty well. A lot of Amish now have cell phones, I should say SmartPhones and I guess that if their children go to a public school are now allowed to use the computer. I know this is a little different from how things used to be for this religion, but it sounds as though they are also a part of the digital generation. Maybe just not as much as what other people are.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jessica that technology has many pros and cons. The kids that were in the pictures and videos were advanced but to some they are within reach to match their skills. Just because I can’t a blog post to work doesn’t mean I can’t take one of the kids on in a techy match.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty funny way to put it. Anyone that is not Amish is involved in technology. I agree with you that technology has brought some darkness to our world but there are more Pros than Cons.
